For a long time, many visionaries have had an image of a home controlled entirely through a mobile or tablet-based computer. That idea isn’t so unrealistic anymore, thanks to something called the Internet of Things. What is it?

The Internet of Things (IoT) is an idea of connecting various computer devices, machines, objects and even animals or humans (with some unique IDs, of course) into a related network system. This will allow data to be transferred into and over the system without any interaction between computers and other human users. In other words, it is a network of various devices, all connected.

Applications of IoT

It seems that the Internet of Things is the future of human civilization. With some RFID chips, for example, it may be possible to get an ID, or even credit cards, because every piece of information can be saved in this way. It seems like a vision of the future, yet IoT technology is becoming more and more popular nowadays.

One such example is home automation. It is possible to integrate home appliances to create “intelligent buildings”. In other words, all of the devices that control or change certain factors, such as the heating, can be utilized by one central device. A mobile or tablet can then serve as a remote control for the entire home.

IoT devices can also offer great benefits to medicine. Using this technology, it’s possible to create devices that can remotely control various human performance factors, such as blood pressure or glucose levels. Furthermore, this technology presents an opportunity to more greatly control important devices and medical factors, such as implants within the human body.iot house

Dangers of IoT

The idea of using RFID chips, implanted into the human body, met some controversies. Many conspiracy fans think the chips enable others to control the human mind. Furthermore, there are no safety standards in place to limit any adverse effects these devices might have.

Yet the application of the IoT, in many aspects of human life, presents an opportunity to improve and develop civilization, as well as making various machines safe and comfortable to use. However, it is still necessary to approach this subject with a small helping of criticism.
