This is probably the biggest breach in the history of Internet. According to Yahoo, “state-sponsored” hackers stole information relating to at least 500 million accounts, including names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, hashed passwords and encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers.

The attack took place on 2014. Yahoo claims to not have known about it until one of the reporters started suspecting the breach when he found that some of the users’ data is being sold on the Internet black market.

All Yahoo’s users are recommended to change their passwords and security questions if they haven’t done so since 2014.

The breach is a very bad news not only for Yahoo and it’s users but also for Verizon. The telecoms giant bought Yahoo in July for $4.8 billion, hoping to gain Yahoo’s enormous user base. Now, the investment might not recoup their initial expense.
